Information about our repeaters

The following repeaters are operated under the FARA "umbrella": 145.19 (W8PRH/R), 145.23 (W8PRH/R), 145.39 (W8PRH/R),224.12 (KA8YRN/R), 442.65 (N8OUY), 443.65 (W8PRH/R), and 29.62 (KD8C/R).

  • 144.59/145.19

This repeater is a wide area coverage repeater featuring forty-two receive sites and one high-profile transmit site with thirteen additional transmitters operating in simulcast mode. The repeater utilizes a voting system to determine which receiver is receiving the strongest signal and automatically selects that receiver. You can tell which receiver has been selected by listening for the CW character that also serves as a reset "beep", plus a high or low CW tone. See system map for receiver locations and their identifying letters.

  • The 145.19 has an anti-kerchunker and a sleep mode:
  • When the repeater has been down for more than ten seconds, key up for about four seconds, then add the code
  • Within ten seconds there is about 1˝-second delay.
  • During normal keying, there is always a ˝-second delay.
  • Don’t forget, if you are into the repeater fine in Lexington, you will sound just the same in Cleveland. The main repeater is located in the Fairfield, Ohio area. In the Columbus area, dial to 145.19; Athens, 146.625; Cleveland/Akron, 145.19. In Indianapolis, dial 145.19; Lexington Metro, 145.21; Halls Gap, 145.17; Louisville North, 145.13; Louisville South, 145.23; Stanton, 146.97;Hazard, 146.805; and Toledo 145.19 (toned, see system map).
  • 145.39 and 145.23

These repeaters are single-site medium profile repeaters. They are located in Fairfield, Ohio and covers a radius of 30 to 50 miles depending on direction and terrain. Both repeaters are microprocessor controlled with numerous features. The following briefly describes some of those features: Repeater time-out is three minutes...reset with a tail "beep". Two-second anti-kerchunker...will sometimes require two seconds of carrier on the repeater input to activate the repeater.

AUTOPATCH/AUTODIAL Autopatch timeout...3 minutes...reset with autopatch timer reset codes. Time-out warning warble tone 15 seconds prior to disconnect. Please identify your station and specifically identify the person on the patch prior to patch termination. After termination the repeater will automatically give the time and date.

When an autodial code is dialed the repeater will connect the phone line and automatically dial the phone number. Please be sure to give the 145.19 receiver system time to vote before dialing touchtone codes or phone numbers. Key down, wait two seconds and then dial your number.

Use the patch on the 145.39 machine whenever possible instead of the 145.19 patch to avoid unnecessarily tying up the wide area coverage system.

2–METER LINK Both repeaters have frequency programmable 2- meter links that allow them to be linked to other 2-meter repeaters in the area. For further information contact any FARA Control Operator or FaraInfo

FARA would appreciate the following:

  • QSO’s should be as short as possible.
  • Always give call sign before using the autopatch or other FARA services.
  • Please DO NOT acknowledge any illegal transmissions.
  • Don’t "quick key"—allow room for others with traffic to get in. Use your suffix letters to interrupt a QSO,... the word ‘break’ is used for emergency situations only.
  • Refrain from using "CB" language—‘personal’ or 'handle' for name, ‘ten-twenty’ for location, ‘on the side’ for listening, etc.
